Add This 1 Tip to Your 2012 Marketing Strategy
If your company is like most small Indiana businesses, then 2011 was a struggle to maintain or improve sales and profit.
The National Retail Federation projects a 3.4% increase in retail growth for 2012, down from a 4.7% growth figure in 2011. Retail sales make up about 70% of the U.S. economy so it becomes a good indicator of how the coming year will be.
Regardless of the type of product or service you offer to your customer it looks like 2012 will be another challenge. Like most small business owners you have already cut expenses and are doing everything possible to manage smarter.
Here is a tip to help increase sales: Start making the Internet a bigger part of your marketing strategy.
First, if you do not have a website then plan on creating one this year as a place for customers to learn more about your company. If you already have a website then good for you! However, it’s critical that you keep it up to date with fresh current content about happenings at your company and in your industry. Give the consumer a reason to keep coming back and learning why your business is special. If you are a landscape company show photos of jobs completed. If you are a butcher explain the different cuts of meat. If you are a dentist practicing in an Indiana town have a section on your website showing the proper way to brush teeth and why semi-annual exams are important.
Secondly, explore having a social media strategy. Social media is all about communicating with your customer in real time. Determine if it’s the right thing to use for your business. Would a Facebook page be a place for satisfied customers to comment on your great service? Could YouTube be used to show short videos highlighting key members of your staff?
Finally, know that local search is the newest and, I believe, the most important Internet development to come along in years. It helps the small Indiana business beat out the larger national chains by showing your customer a snapshot of what they need to know about your business right on page 1 of Google. Learn about Google Places and how this can help your company generate new sales. It will be worth your time and investment.
There will be winners and losers in 2012 as there were in 2011.
Use the Internet to make sure your business comes out on top.
